Saturday Photo Hunt - The Theme is "Pink"

I took this picture last Spring of this lonely magnolia
flower. It is such a beautiful pastel color. Here in Europe
they call this a tulip tree.
Happy Weekend Hunters!

Saturday Photo Hunt - The Theme is "Practical"

My Swiss Army Knife

Next after the safety pin - I think my Swiss Army knife is one of the most practical inventions ever! My hubby has the humongous version, but I've had mine for 35 years. It's got a big and small knife, a screwdriver, a nail cleaner, a bottle opener and a can opener and a scissors! This is what I'd have with me if I were on a deserted island!
The words "Victoria Officier Suisse" are engraved on my knife! - cool!
Happy Saturday!

Lucky Dube - The Day the Music Died

What is this world coming to? One of South Africa's best singer/songwriters was shot dead in his car while dropping off his kids at school.
The authorities are saying he was shot during a car-jacking.
Who kills a father in front of his kids for a car??
If you don't know South Africa's Lucky Dube - check out his many songs on You Tube
or at his Lucky Dube's Website
His lyrics are moving and relevant to the world today.
South Africa and the world has lost a great talent and ambassador for
the poor and suffering.
Rest in peace Lucky.

Congratulations Al

I'm a huge fan of Al Gore! Have been for a long time. It's so refreshing to know there is a politician who is out there, among the people, fighting for something he believes in and is not hidden behind a desk somewhere.
In honor of his work, Al Gore has received the Nobel Peace Prize.
The following is from a super blog about the climate.

Go there to read more about our climate and our Earth.
The Conscious Earth

In recognition of "their efforts to build up and disseminate knowledge about man-made climate change", Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have been announced as co-winners of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

In awarding the honour, the Nobel committee singled out Al Gore as "probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted". President Bill Clinton expressed similar feelings,

"Gore's ex-boss, former President Clinton, also said he's 'thrilled by this well-deserved recognition,' and credited Gore with 'warning and educating us about the dangers of climate change for decades. He saw this coming before others in public life.'"

Gore stated that he will donate his half of the $1.5 million dollar prize to the Alliance for Climate Protection, an organization he founded to persuade people to reduce global warming by cutting greenhouse gas pollution.

Saturday Photo Hunt - The Theme is "Smelly"

In the late 50's the local "Poorhouse" in our town closed down.
It is now a museum and looking at this picture, you
can almost smell the stench of many poor people living
together. They had workshops and a schoolroom for the children.
I think they took a bath once a week, which can give you an idea
of what it must have smelt like. This was not the worst poorhouse I've
heard about. Some of the poorhouses in Victorian London were much, much
worse!
This picture is the sink in one of the bathrooms.
Happy Weekend

I Love Halloween

Call me childish, call me young at heart,-
but I just love Halloween. Always have
and always will. Perhaps it's the time
of year - who knows. Lucky for me that
I have a friend who loves Halloween just
as much as I do - so we send each other
cards and make October a fun month for
each other. Thanks to my dear friend for
all the fun.
You are boo-tiful!
PS - did I mention she is also a poet!!

Saturday Photo Hunt - The theme is "Curvy"

It's amazing how the wind can make such beautiful patterns
in the sand.
I took this photo last year on the beach of Skagen where 2 seas meet.
Happy Weekend everyone!
