This photo really reveals my age! I am a baby boomer from the 50's.
This is a picture of my mom on the left turning in her chair with her friends and my aunts at my 2 year old birthday party. The hairstyles, the sunglasses, the cotton dresses all bring back faded memories of California in the early 50's. But even though the styles are out-dated, there was something very elegant about those women and their wide skirts, the sunglasses, the big clip- on earings and the sandals they wore to accentuate their ankles.
My mother was a "poser". A Legs extended, chin up kind of gal whenever anyone took pictures. She always looked stunning in all the early pictures of her. This photo is a tribute to her and all the elegant mothers of the 50's -
may their memories never fade.

Excellent! Looks like it was a fun party too! Where's little LibertyBelle at?

My mother WANTED to be your mother! Actually... I DO think that once upon a time my mother WAS quite a fashion plate! But by the time I (number 7) came along... well... poor thing... she'd fallen into a slump of "frump". I remember her in house coats ... with a martini! But... I LOVED to play in all those HAT BOXES in the top of her closet!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the 50's! Sometimes I so wish that those days were here again. Times were so much simpler and lifestyles were not quite as fast paced and stressful like they are now.

Your mother was quite the fashion plate! ---Her earrings I love! Clip on earrings....can you fancy that?

Love this.

Aww, this is a wonderful tribute to your dear Mother! Love the fashions back in the day. My goodness, doesn't a photo like this bring it all back! My Mom looked so much like the girl in the first seat on the right!!! :)

Very nice, classic. Funny how the hairstyles were so homogeneous, but I'm sure in a few years looking back at my own photos, I'll notice some similarities.

I agree with the elegance - though I love the comfort of blue jeans, some of those fashions they wore were very stylish and attractive!

Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful picture! Ever notice how everyone looked beautiful back then? I wish we still dressed that way. Now when people show up to your kids birthday party they look like they just rolled out of bed:(

This is such an awesome memory picture. I have to say, when I look at pictures of my mom in the late 50's - she was really neat looking. I think we should 'take back' the elegant look of the 50's :)

I love this photo...so cool. Women were very beautiful back then. It always seems to me that alot more women back there really took pride in the way they looked. I think that is awesome.

I was born in 1960, in California, and I have early pictures very much like yours. I love looking over them. My parents took many pictures. The style back then was neat and some of it is coming back. Thanks for sharing your memory and for stopping by.

Oh, yeah. I'm a bit younger, but I know that women aren't the same anymore. On the other hand it's very good that they aren't, but also as you said, there was a certain elegancy that today's women are missing.

Thanks for stopping by :)

It's wonderful to have the freedom to wear jeans just about anywhere, but then almost all the pictures of me are casual. My mother and grandmother look so much better in all of their pictures because they dressed! I love seeing your pics and reading stories of California!

There's nothing like a photo from the past to compare and contrast with today's living standards.
Excellent choice.

Very cool picture! I love it! I wanted to post a photo I have of my grandmother from the 40s that is so "elegant" like your ladies---but it isn't MY memory so I didn't think it right for this theme.

I'm scanning all the picstures we had from when I was a babe till the time to I was not even born yet. This inspired me to really do it.
